hill

On-Yomi: キュウ — Kun-Yomi: おか

Elements:

hill, axe, one, floor

Heisig story:

Since this supposedly pictographic representation of a hill looks like anything but, picture a row of axes driven into the ground up to their heads, and see if that doesn't present a more memorable image of hill - at least a riskier one sliding down!

Koohii stories:

1) [Spidercat] 18-2-2008(284): Excalibur is the sword planted in a rock. Lesser known AXCAHILLBUR is the axe planted on top of a hill.

2) [PepeSeco] 31-10-2006(67): At Capitol Hill proposals get axed on the floor.

3) [fuaburisu] 25-1-2006(24): This is Faeries Hill (the kingdom of faeries is said to live under the hills, as in english myths) where a lumberjack mysteriously disappeared. At the top of the hill is an axe planted in the floor, left there by the faeries as a warning to anyone else who would be fool enough to go up the hill to gather wood.

4) [Viking101] 8-1-2010(19): I climbed to the top of a hill but didn't have a flag so I stuck my axe in the ground in order to mark my momentous ascent.

5) [ivantolearnkanji] 6-4-2008(14): I like to c-hill-ax on the floor.
