riot
On-Yomi: ラン、ロン — Kun-Yomi: みだ.れる、みだ.る、みだ.す、みだ、おさ.める、わた.る
Elements:
riot, tongue, thousand, drop, ten, needle, mouth, fishhook
Heisig story:
In a riot, manners are laid aside and tempers get short, even in so courtesy-conscious a land as Japan. This kanji shows what happens to a rioting tongue: it gets "barbed" like a fishhook, and sets to attacking the opposition, to hook them as it were.
Koohii stories:
1) [rotifera] 11-11-2007(216): The riot police broke up the riot by dragging the rioters away by their tongues with fishooks.
2) [Christine_Tham] 18-8-2007(87): A tongue with a hook can cause a riot.
3) [lostdog] 20-12-2007(56): If my daughter took her tongue and pierced it with a fishhook, that would cause her mother and I to riot!
4) [Xtophe] 7-9-2006(31): During a riot in a totalitarian country, the leftist's tongues are fishhooked by the police ( a way for me to remember that tongue is on the left of the kanji).
5) [pollodepalo] 11-11-2008(16): Rioters are punks with fish hooks in their tongues.
