plane
On-Yomi: サク — Kun-Yomi: けず.る、はつ.る、そ.ぐ
Elements:
plane, resemblance, spark, candle, small, little, moon, month, flesh, part of the body, sword, sabre, saber
Heisig story:
Long before the invention of the carpenter's plane, people used knives and machetes (or here, sabers) to smooth out their woodwork. If you have ever seen the process, you will have been amazed at the speed and agility with which the adept can plane a hunk of wood into shape. Indeed, you can almost see the sparks fly from their sabers.
Koohii stories:
1) [Ninjasha] 21-12-2007(258): Sparks will fly if you attempt to PLANE your sabre.
2) [snozle] 21-10-2006(85): With today's strict air regulations, carrying a sabre onto a plane could spark quite a commotion.
3) [LazyNomad] 21-2-2010(62): Not "a plane", but "to plane". To carve a sculpture from wooden block, you cut it (with a sword) little by little, until there is resemblance with whatever it was meant to resemble.
4) [sprutnik] 4-10-2008(36): The carpenter's plane resembles a saber.
5) [ederu] 15-12-2008(12): sparks fly from the blade as they plane the surface to perfection.
