chant

On-Yomi: ショウ — Kun-Yomi: とな.える

Elements:

chant, mouth, prosperous, sun, day, tongue wagging, sun2, day2, tongue wagging2

Heisig story:

This one is easy! You have one mouth making no noise (the choirmaster) and two mouths with wagging tongues (the minimum for a chorus). So think of the key word, chant, as monastery singing and the kanji is yours forever (see frame 11).

Koohii stories:

1) [DrWarrior12] 29-6-2007(201): Someone chanting with their mouth open for two consecutive days.

2) [Tanuki] 5-8-2007(50): Chants from our mouths are meant to reach the sun and the stars. Stars are just suns just further away so they seem smaller.

3) [arturo] 14-7-2007(33): His mouth chants always when prosperous.

4) [MichaelAnd] 10-3-2008(28): The monk opened his month and chanted for two days.

5) [rowdyphantom] 23-2-2010(16): A yogi opens his mouth and chants for two straight days! [So, did you reach nirvana? "Nah, got a wicked sore throat, though."].
