test

On-Yomi: — Kun-Yomi: こころ.みる、ため.す

Elements:

test, say, words, keitai, mouth, style, arrow, craft

Heisig story:

When a manufacturer produces a new style for the market, the first thing that is done is to run a test on consumers, asking them to speak their opinions frankly about the product. Never mind the anachronism (the kanji was there well before our capitalistic market system) if it helps you remember.

Koohii stories:

1) [dwhitman] 13-10-2007(351): In an essay test, you are judged on both your choice of words and your writing style.

2) [anthropic] 19-3-2008(53): The Japanese oral exam was a test of my speaking style.

3) [matstc] 14-6-2008(24): Think about rap: the real test is if the words are as good as the style.

4) [gavmck] 4-2-2010(16): Tip: This kanji and a few others have keywords whose meanings overlap in English which may be confusing - test (#354 試) 試 : test (the water), try (and see), exam (#1278 校) 校 : examine (text), examination (#1673 検) 検 : examine, inspect (not a school exam or test), check-up (#1724 診) 診 : (medical) check-up, verification (#1980 験) 験 : examination, experiment (similar to 試 ) .

5) [atomiton] 1-3-2010(9): Your speaking style is NOT tested on the JLPT (the JLPT is a little more concrete as a test for me).
