obey
On-Yomi: ジュン
Elements:
obey, stream, flood, head, page, one, ceiling, drop, shellfish, clam, oyster, eye, animal legs, eight
Heisig story:
In primitive language, this character would read stream . . . head. And that turns out to be convenient for remembering its meaning of obey. Either one obeys the person who is head of an organization or else obeys by following the stream of opinion ("current" practice, we call it). Both these senses come together in this kanji.
Koohii stories:
1) [steves] 10-10-2007(185): "Obey, Obey!" says the brain-washing scientist as he sends a stream of orders to fill your head.
2) [jonny49cc] 4-7-2008(92): Obey the orders streaming down from head office.
3) [dukelexon] 17-4-2008(59): An ancient form of militaristic torture: I'll hold your head in the river until you obey. Or, if you'd prefer, to get the order of primitives correct: In the stream I'll dunk your head until you obey.
4) [skellyfish] 9-12-2008(53): In Japan, obeying means following the stream of collective opinion BEFORE using your own head.
5) [romanrozhok] 23-8-2008(21): 順 【じゅん】 (adj-na,n,n-suf) order; turn; (P) "Your book must have its PAGES in ORDER so that the story flows as clear as a STREAM".
